High-speed
Ferrite Switches operating at 60 GHz and 90 GHz.
Ferrite Domen Company
offers its new products – the family of high-speed low-loss
ferrite switches, featuring operation time below 1 μs, purposed
for the use in commercial communication equipment, various radars,
and other mm-wave systems, functioning in 50-100 GHz range. |
| Switches have been developed in T-configuration
for waveguides WR-15 and WR-10 with UG-387/U output flanges. |

Design of the
switches is an Y-junction of rectangular waveguides.
In the center of junction is installed a ferrite
resonator configured into toroidal geometry. Around the center of ferrite
insert is set a turn of copper wire, through which
are fed control current pulses of different polarity, resulting
in changes of magnetic field direction inside the resonator.
This switching of the field is being performed by the
control current pulse in 23 μs with
pulse amplitude of about 710 A. Once
the switching operation is executed, there is no need
to sustain the pulse current feeding, because ferrite resonator
operates just by residual magnetization of material's
hysteresis loop. |
It is this
phenomenon that gives way to provide the minimum values both
of control energy and switching time. |
